Considered as the father of modern speleology.
born on August 19, 1897 in Saint-Martory (Haute-Garonne) and died on July 20, 1987 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), is a French speleologist, pyreneist, and writer. He explored many caves in the Pyrenees, discovering on several occasions cave paintings and prehistoric remains. He was the first to formally identify the source of the Garonne River in the Val d'Aran. He has been able to share his passion for speleology with the general public through his numerous exploration stories and thematic novels.
