La ville d'Upernavik peut célébrer son 250e anniversaire le 8 août. Upernavik ("L'endroit où passer le printemps") est située dans la municipalité d'Avannaa, à l'extrême nord du Groenland occidental. La ville est située sur une île portant le même nom. La population de la ville est d'environ 1 125 habitants, auxquels s'ajoutent 1 675 personnes résidant dans les neuf localités environnantes. Upernavik était la capitale de l'ancienne municipalité d'Upernavik, qui couvrait une superficie presque égale à celle de la Grande-Bretagne.

Die Stadt befindet sich auf der gleichnamigen Insel. In der Stadt leben etwa 1.125 Einwohner, weitere 1.675 Menschen wohnen in den neun umliegenden Siedlungen. Upernavik war die Hauptstadt der früheren Kommune Upernavik, die eine Fläche fast so groß wie Großbritannien umfasste.

The town is sited on an island bearing the same name. The population in the town is about 1,125 with a further 1,675 people residing in the nine surrounding settlements. Upernavik was the capital of the former Upernavik Municipality, which comprised an area almost the size of Great Britain.
